UNSC India: India again became the President of the United Nations Security Council, got a big responsibility for the month of December

United Nations: On Thursday, India took over the responsibility of the presidency of the United Nations Security Council, which meets for one month each. During the presidency of this fifteen-member body, India will host several major programs on counter-terrorism and multilateral reform. India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ruchira Kamboj will sit at the chair’s seat at the table set up for Council meetings. Prior to India’s presidency, he met UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and General Assembly President Kassaba Korosi and discussed the priorities of the powerful body.

India expressed happiness
Kamboj tweeted on Tuesday that she was pleased to meet Secretary-General Antonio Guterres today. Discussed priorities and work programs ahead of India’s presidency of the Security Council in December. India’s Permanent Representative met Korosi on Monday. Korosi tweeted, “It is always a pleasure to meet India’s Permanent Representative Ruchira Kamboj. Today’s discussion focused on India’s presidency of the UN Security Council, which begins on Thursday. I am looking forward to the coming month.

Security Council was established in 1946
Like the United Nations, it was also established after the Second World War. The first meeting of the Security Council was held on 17 January 1946. The Security Council was weak for a long time due to the Cold War. But it played an important role during the Congo War and the Korean War. Apart from this, peace missions were also sent in many countries as per the need. The Security Council consists of 5 permanent and 10 non-permanent members. The non-permanent members are elected after every two years.

Led peace operations in many countries
After the disintegration of Russia, the Security Council saw a sharp increase in its strength and carried out peacekeeping operations in many parts of the world. The Security Council has conducted several peacekeeping missions in times of instability in Kuwait, Namibia, Cambodia, Bosnia, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan and the Congo.
