- Communications failure in an area of northern Germany
- After this the train services were temporarily stopped.
Germany: Train services were temporarily suspended in an area in northern Germany after a communication failure on Saturday. Germany’s national railway operator said train services were disrupted due to sabotage. Operator Deutsche Bahn said there were no long-distance or regional trains operating in the north-western states of Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony and the Bremen region. This meant that there were no trains running between Berlin and Cologne, and also between the capital and Amsterdam, while trains from Denmark were not entering the German border.
After nearly three hours of suspension of train services, Deutsche Bahn said the failure of the digital train radio system had been resolved, but there could be some disruption to train services. Deutsche Bahn said later on Saturday that the disruption in train services was caused by the sabotage of cables needed for rail traffic. According to the report of the German news agency DPA, security officials have started an investigation in this regard.
Germany: Hundreds of flights canceled due to pilot’s strike
According to another news, on Thursday, German airline Eurowings had to cancel hundreds of flights due to its pilot going on strike. Eurowings, a Lufthansa subsidiary, said nearly half of its 500 daily flights would be halted, affecting thousands of passengers.
According to the company, the pilot’s strike has severely affected flight operations not only at German airports, but also at airports in other regions such as Stockholm, Prague and Mallorca. The pilots’ union Verenigung Cockpit announced the strike after talks with the management on the issue of improving working conditions were halted.
In fact, the pilots are demanding reduction in the existing permissible limit of maximum flying hours. Last month, the strike at parent Lufthansa was called off after the airline and the union agreed to a wage settlement to deal with the impact of rising inflation.
