Bangladesh Thief: A strange case of theft has come to light in Bangladesh. A thief trapped inside a shop after stealing it in Bangladesh’s Barishal district called the police to avoid beating up the mob. The thief took this decision to avoid his possible ‘mob lynching’.
Bangladesh officials said on Friday that a 40-year-old thief, who broke into a grocery store in AR Bazar in Bandar area on Thursday night, found himself trapped inside the shop. Actually, in the shop where the thief had gone to steal, a crowd had gathered outside the shop.
Thief was trapped in the shop
According to Bangladesh Police, the thief felt that the mob would thrash him if he himself went out of the shop, so he called the police through the country’s national helpline number ‘999’. The thief told the police about his real situation and sought help to get him out safely. Sensing the danger, the local police took immediate action.
This happened for the first time…
“This is the first time in my decade-long career that a thief has called the police after committing a crime,” Bandar police station chief Asaduzzaman told reporters. However, during this time the owner of the shop could not understand what was happening. When he came to open his shop on Friday morning, he saw that a crowd had gathered outside the shop and the police was searching there.
Shop owner Jhantu Miyan told reporters, “Police stopped me from entering my shop for some time. After sometime they brought a person out. After that I understood what was happening.” Police said the accused is a “professional thief” and has been arrested on charges of attempted theft.
