The effect of the US Supreme Court’s decision was visible, abortion stopped in more than 60 clinics in 15 states

US 66 Clinics Halted Abortions: Many clinics in America have stopped providing abortion facilities there. This has been revealed in an investigation by the Guttmacher Institute. In fact, in June this year, the Supreme Court of the country had abolished the right of women to abortion while giving a historic decision.

The SC had given this decision in Roe Vs Wade case. The institute investigated the impact of this decision on the laws of the states in 100 days after the arrival of this decision. The result of this investigation was released on Thursday, 6 October. According to this, at least 66 clinics in the country have stopped abortions.

Fewer abortion clinics

According to an analysis released on October 6 by the Gutmarker Institute, at least 66 clinics in 15 states have stopped performing abortions since the US Supreme Court overturned its decision in Roe v. Wade. The Guttmarker Institute, a research group that supports abortion rights, says that even before the SC’s June 24 decision, the number of abortion clinics in 15 US states has decreased drastically.

In these states, the number of these clinics came down from 79 to just 13 by 2 October 2022, even before the decision of 24 June. These 13 remaining abortion clinics are in Georgia. There are no clinics left in other states offering abortion, although some do offer health care other than abortion. By the year 2020, there were more than 800 clinics providing abortion facilities in the US.

“Much more research will be needed to understand the full extent of the chaos, confusion, and harm that the US Supreme Court has created for people in need of an abortion, but who are in need of an abortion,” said Guttmarker Institute researcher Rachel Jones. The picture is beginning to emerge, should anyone who supports the right to reproductive freedom and bodily autonomy feel threatened.

The new report by the Institute for Abortion Rights does not include data from hospitals and doctors’ offices that have facilitated abortions and have stopped them following a court ruling. Researcher Jones noted that most US clinics that perform the most abortions provide medication for abortion. Data from the institute has revealed that more than half of American abortions are performed through medication.

There is no facility in the southern states

Most of the states that do not provide abortion facilities in America are the southern states of the country. Due to the absence of this facility in these states, women here will have to face a lot of problems. Women who want to get an abortion will have to travel a long way for this, which in a way will not be possible in these circumstances. Dr. Jeanne Corwin, who performed abortions in Indiana and Ohio, says that the closure of the clinic will cause immense damage to the physical, mental and financial health of women.

The institute’s investigation has also revealed that abortion clinics in many states also feel threatened, because restrictions on abortion were given only temporary relief. These include Indiana, Ohio and South Carolina. Katie McHugh of OB-GYN, an abortion clinic in Indiana, said, “It’s a dangerous move from a medical and certainly commercial point of view.” He added, “When you don’t know that tomorrow you are going to be a criminal, it is difficult to keep the doors of the clinic open.”

what was the matter

On June 24, 2022, the US Supreme Court overturned a five-decade-old decision that legally allowed abortion. The court gave this decision after overturning the 50-year-old Roe vs. Wade case. In the Roe vs. Wade case, the pregnant woman was given the right to decide on this matter through the Constitution, stating that abortion was legal. After this decision of the US Supreme Court, there was a process of closure of abortion clinics in some states. Its direct effect was seen immediately after the decision. As soon as the court’s decision was posted online, an abortion clinic in Little Rock, Arkansas state, closed its doors for abortions and canceled all women’s appointments.
