Temperatures to rise soon: Met Office’s latest heat wave warning

Most parts of India are expected to have warmer than normal weather this year.

New Delhi:

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) today said that there would be an increase of 3-5 degree Celsius in the temperature over the next five days in some parts of the country.

“Maximum temperatures very likely to be above normal by 3-5 degrees Celsius over Northeast India, West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh during next 4-5 days,” the IMD said. a statement.

The IMD statement said, “Heat wave at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal during 13th to 17th, over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Odisha during 13th to 15th April and over Bihar during 15th to 17th April 2023.” is likely to be the case.”

The weather office has also predicted light rain and lightning accompanied by thundershowers over Goa, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra over the next five days.

According to the IMD, India recorded the warmest February this year since record-keeping began in 1901. However, above normal rains due to seven western disturbances, including five strong ones, kept the temperature in check in March.

In view of the prediction of heat wave in the national capital, the Delhi government today issued guidelines on preparedness of schools. In the new guidelines, all schools recognized under the Directorate of Education have been directed to ensure that there is no gathering of students in schools during the afternoon.

Earlier, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had directed all Anganwadi centers and schools to remain closed from April 12 to April 16 in view of rising temperature in the coastal state.

Many parts of India are forecast to see warmer-than-normal weather through June, raising the risk of more stress on the electricity network as people turn to air conditioners to find relief from heat waves.
