Hockey India Junior Hockey Asia Cup 2023 Team India has been announced for This time the Asia Cup will be organized in Oman from May 23 to June 1. The Junior Asia Cup will be the qualifying tournament for the FIH Junior Men’s World Cup to be held in Malaysia in December. India is in Pool A along with Pakistan, Japan, Thailand and Chinese Taipei while Korea, Malaysia, Oman, Bangladesh and Uzbekistan are placed in Pool B.
Uttam scored two goals in the shootout in a thrilling 5-4 win over Australia in the Sultan of Johor Cup in November last year. Vishnukant Singh and Sudeep Chirmako, who scored for India in this match, have also retained their place in the 18-member squad. Uttam also participated in India’s World Cup 2021 campaign in Bhubaneswar. The Indian team’s campaign in this tournament lasted till the semi-finals.
Apart from Uttam, Bobby Singh Dhami was made the vice-captain of the team, while Mohit HS and Himwan Sihag were selected as goalkeepers. In the midfield will be the experienced Vishnukant Singh, who performed brilliantly during the recently held FIH Hockey Pro League in Rourkela. He will be supported by Rajinder Singh, Poovanna CB, Amandeep and Sunit Lakra. Bobby, Arijit Singh Hundal, Aditya Lalge, Uttam, Sudeep Chirmako and Angad Bir Singh will lead the front line of the team.
Indian team coach CR Kumar said, ‘We have a very experienced team in which some players have recently made their debut for the senior team. We have prepared at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) campus in Bengaluru where the senior team was also present. We have got the benefit of playing practice matches with them.
