Why did Braverman resign?
Suella Braverman has been accused of leaking government documents related to migrants. British officials claimed that the Home Minister had sent the document to a fellow MP even before the official document was published. This was legally considered a violation of the minister’s oath. After which Liz Truss demanded the resignation of Suella Braverman.
What Suella Braverman wrote in her resignation
Suella Braverman said in her resignation letter that she was leaving her position with great regret. He wrote that earlier today, I sent an official document from my personal email to a trusted parliamentary colleague as part of government policy and with the aim of garnering support for government policy on migration. He further wrote that this is technically a violation of the rules. As you know, the document was a draft of the written Ministerial Statement on Migrants, which was due to be published soon. Much of this was already communicated to the MPs. Still, it is right for me to resign.
Suella Braverman resigns after admitting mistake
Braverman said that as soon as I realized my mistake, I immediately reported it on official channels and informed the cabinet secretary. As Home Secretary, I hold myself to the highest standards and my resignation is the right thing to do. Government business depends on people accepting responsibility for their mistakes. I made a mistake; I accept the responsibility. I am resigning.
