The attacker Pawan Kalyan was a BCA student of another college.
Bengaluru:
A 19-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her distant cousin at her college in Karnataka’s Bengaluru on Monday, police said.
Lymesmith was stabbed multiple times by Pawan Kalyan in the corridor of Presidency College, where she was pursuing her B.Tech.
Officials said Pawan Kalyan, a BCA student at Nripatunga University in Bengaluru, was a distant cousin of Layasmitha and they knew each other well.
“He wanted to marry Laysmitha,” he said.
Officials said Pawan, 21, had bypassed security and entered Layasmitha’s college with a knife.
After attacking Leesmith several times, Pawan tried to kill himself as well.
A police officer said, “Pawan was carrying a knife. After a brief conversation with Laismitha, he stabbed her several times. He then stabbed himself in the chest.”
College staff and Lesmitha’s friends took him to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead, officials said, adding that Pawan Kalyan is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
For the last three-four years, Pawan had been requesting the parents of Lasith to let their daughter get married – which they refused. Bengaluru Rural Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi said his mother had warned him earlier as well.
Police said that a case has been registered and investigation is on.
Mr. Baldandi said that the exact motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained. “We are also analyzing the CCTV footage to find out how he entered inside the campus. The college has hired a private security agency and tight security arrangements have been made,” he added.
