Kyiv:
Explosions were heard in a central neighborhood of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv on Wednesday, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said, adding it appeared to be a drone strike.
For weeks, Russia ravaged Ukraine’s energy infrastructure with missiles and drones, plunging millions into the cold and darkness of winter.
“Explosion in the Shevchenkivsky district of the capital. (Emergency) services are underway,” Klitschko said on social media on Wednesday morning.
He said air defense had shot down 10 “martyr drones” over Kyiv and the surrounding area, referring to Iranian-made kamikaze drones that Moscow has been accused of deploying against Ukrainian targets.
The capital’s military administration said two administrative buildings were damaged by drone debris in the Shevchenkivsky district.
There were no immediate reports of casualties.
