Shark Tank India returned to the small screen with Season 2 on Monday. Five sharks including Anupam Mittal, Vinita Singh, Piyush Bansal, Namita Thapar and Aman Gupta heard some interesting pitches and decided to invest in some of them. However, a pitch regarding a makeup brand, Recode, was rejected mainly because it was a competing brand to Vinita Singh’s makeup brand, Sugar. Several viewers took to Twitter to register their dismay at the practice. All the sharks were very impressed with how two small town entrepreneurs introduced their homegrown makeup brand Recode and revealed some interesting business strategies that left the sharks stunned. Everyone except Piyush Bansal still rejected the pitch simply because it was from the same industry as Vinita Singh. The Sugar co-founder was also surprised when told that Sugar follows Recode on Instagram.
Commenting on the incident, a Twitter user wrote, “Disappointed with Shark Tank India this season, poor people who have the same occupation as any of the judges won’t get exposure just because the sharks don’t want to lose their friend. What kind of logic is that?” Another said, “Shark Tank India. Saw the pitch for the RECODE brand.. #shark guys respect for what you guys have done.. but what I saw today, the way #sugarcosmetics friendship club Done, he doesn’t thump the concept of fund-raising.”
Another asked, “Why have they turned Shark Tank Season 2 into a full-fledged TV serial drama. “I don’t invest in my friends’ competitions” bro??? You are all an investor what happened to you guys?” ??I love the way Piyush went it is stupid. A similar comment said: “Today’s lesson from Shark Tank – If you love Beauty , If you are the founder of audio gadgets, eyewear, pharma or marriage business then don’t go there!
