Senior bureaucrat Sanjay Malhotra on Thursday took over as Secretary, Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance.
Sanjay Malhotra succeeds Tarun Bajaj, who retired on November 30.
Sanjay Malhotra, a 1990 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Rajasthan cadre, was serving as the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Department of Revenue since October this year.
Prior to this, he was serving as the Secretary in the Department of Financial Services (DFS). Sanjay Malhotra has taken charge as the top bureaucrat in the Department of Revenue at a time when the government is preparing for the Union Budget 2023-24 to be presented in Parliament on February 1.
He will look into various tax-related proposals for the budget and will also be the ex-officio secretary of the GST (Goods and Services Tax) Council.
Sanjay Malhotra is an alumnus of IIT-Kanpur and holds a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Princeton University, US.
