Russia surrounds America in the United Nations
Konstantin Vorontsov, deputy director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Department of Non-Proliferation and Arms Control, told the United Nations that the US and its allies were trying to use space to enforce Western dominance. Reading from the notes Vorontsov said that the use of Western satellites in the Ukraine war is an extremely dangerous trend. Vorontsov told the United Nations First Committee that if this happens, these commercial satellites could be a legitimate target for retaliatory strikes. He also said that the West’s use of such satellites to support Ukraine would be considered provocative.
Russian official did not name any American company
Vorontsov said at the United Nations that we strongly oppose the use of civilian satellites, including commercial ones, in armed conflict by the United States and its allies. Vorontsov didn’t mention any specific satellite companies, though Elon Musk said earlier this month that his rocket company SpaceX would continue its Starlink internet service in Ukraine, citing the need for good works.
