Adams extended Diwali greetings and addressed the gathering of prominent Indian-Americans, South Asians and other community leaders at the Diwali celebrations at his official residence, saying, “Let’s embrace the spirit of Lord Rama.” Live in the spirit of Goddess Sita. Embrace the spirit of Diwali. Let us understand the spirit that this festival represents. Only then will we know that we have fulfilled our responsibilities and duties.
‘End hate and crime against people’
“It is time for us to behave in the spirit of Diwali. Let’s sit and talk. End hate crimes against Sikhs, AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islanders), LGBTQ+ communities, African Americans, Latin Americans, Irish, Jewish and Polish people and other communities living in this city. The program was attended by prominent Indian-origin lawmakers including Consul General of India in New York Randhir Jaiswal, Kevin Thomas elected from Nassau County in 2018 and New York Assembly member Jennifer Rajkumar.
