According to the Financial Times, a report has revealed that India’s neighboring country is approaching many countries and international lenders to take loans of billions of dollars.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif told the Financial Times, “We are not looking at any way at this time for any measures that will put a freeze on debt. We are only asking for additional funds at this time.”

Pakistan’s infrastructure destroyed

The newspaper quoted Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif as saying that the country’s roads, bridges and other infrastructure have been washed away or damaged in the floods, the country needs a huge amount of money to rebuild them. The report said that Shahbaz Sharif did not specify how much money Pakistan needed, but reiterated the estimate of the total damage caused by the floods to the country at “$30 billion”.

Earlier this month, the United Nations increased its humanitarian aid appeal for Pakistan five-fold from $160 million to $816 million. In fact, the increase in water-borne diseases in Pakistan and the fear of food shortage in the coming times have created new threats in the country. The European Union has also increased the flood aid to Pakistan to 30 million euros ($29.57 million).

This flood not only killed people and animals but also washed away 10 lakh houses. More than 220 bridges have collapsed and thousands of kilometers of roads have been destroyed.
