Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday pitched the idea of ’one nation, one uniform’ for the police and said it was just an idea from his side and he was not trying to impose it on the states. Addressing a two-day ‘Chintan Shivir’ of state home ministers organized here via video conference, the Prime Minister advocated closer cooperation between states to crack down on crime and criminals.
Narendra Modi said that cooperative federalism is not only the spirit of the Constitution but it is also the responsibility of the Center and the states. The Prime Minister said that ‘one nation, one uniform’ is just an idea for the police. I am not trying to impose this on all of you, think about it. It could happen in 5, 50 or a hundred years. But we should think about it. PM Modi said that he believes that the identity of the police can be uniform across the country.
Narendra Modi urged all the state governments to review the old laws and improve them in today’s context. He also urged for coordinated action among all agencies to address the emerging challenges of law and order and security. Modi said maintaining a good perception about the police is “very important” and the loopholes that exist in this path should be removed. The PM said that although law and order is a state subject according to the Constitution
But it is equally related to the unity and integrity of the country. He further said that every state should learn from each other, take inspiration from each other and work together for internal security. It is a constitutional imperative for the states to work together for internal security as well as a responsibility towards the country. The Prime Minister said that all agencies, be it from the Center or the states, all should cooperate with each other so that efficiency increases.
Better results should come out and the general public should get security. He said that law and order is directly related to development, so it is everyone’s responsibility to maintain peace. He said that when the strength of the country will increase, then the power of every citizen and every family of the country will increase. this is good governance
The benefit of which is to reach every state of the country to the person standing in the last row of the society. Modi said that it is very important for the entire law and order system to be trustworthy and for this, the police relationship and communication with the common people should be better so that a good impression is created about them. In the last years there have been reforms related to law and order at the level of the Government of India, which has worked to create an environment of peace in the entire country. He said that we need to think of a common platform for technology that can be shared by all. can be shared. States’ best practices can also be shared with each other. Cyber crime or use of drone technology in arms and drug trafficking
For these, we have to keep working on new technology. It will be possible to make law and order smart with smart technology. Referring to the flow of fake news, Modi said that it is necessary to bring out the truth of such news and technology has a big role in this. He said that it is necessary to make people aware about the process or mechanism to check such news so that they can check it before sharing it with anyone else.
Apart from the Home Ministers of the states, the Home Secretaries, Director Generals of Police and Director Generals of Central Security Forces also participated in this camp. This two-day Chintan Shivir is an attempt to provide a national perspective to policy making on matters relating to internal security as announced by the Prime Minister in his Independence Day speech ‘Panch Pran’.
