The Election Commission has sought a report on the incident of clash between two political parties in Tripura.

Sources said the Election Commission of India (ECI) has sought a report on Wednesday’s clash between supporters of two political parties in West Tripura.
According to sources, the ECI has sought this report from the Director General of Police (DGP) and the Chief Secretary of Jirania subdivision by 3 pm on Friday.
“The ECI has sought a report from the DGP and the chief secretary by 3 pm on the incident of clash between supporters of two political parties in Jirania sub-division (West Tripura) on January 18,” sources said.
Reportedly, the alleged attack took place about half an hour after the ECI announced the dates for the assembly elections in the three northeastern states.
The Election Commission on Wednesday announced the schedule for assembly elections in Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland to be held in February-March this year. The results of all the three states will be declared on March 2, 2023.
“Voting for the assembly elections in Tripura will be held in a single phase on February 16 and in Nagaland and Meghalaya on February 27. The results will be declared on March 2,” Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar said during a press conference.
The terms of the electoral states of Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura expire on March 12, 15 and 22, respectively, the CEC said.
“The terms of the respective state assemblies in Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura expire on March 12, 15 and 22 respectively. The three states have 60 assembly constituencies each,” the CEC said.
Giving details of the number of voters in the polling states, Mr Kumar said, “Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura combined have over 62.8 lakh voters, including – 31.47 lakh women voters, 97,000 80+ voters, and 31,700 PWD voters Includes 1.76 million first-time voters to participate in elections in over 3 states.
He also informed that some polling booths will be fully managed by physically challenged and women staff. Women to command 376 PS in Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura.
