Goa’s Suela Braverman
42-year-old Suella Braverman hails from Goa, India and has been the Attorney General. Braverman is the Truss’s biggest supporter. Braverman is a big supporter of the truss but has also supported Sunak’s name in the past. Born on 3 April 1980, Suella Braverman’s father’s name was Christie and mother’s name was Uma Fernandes. Both were of Indian origin and had emigrated to Britain from Kenya and Mauritius in the 1960s.
His mother worked as a nurse and counselor in Brent. Father Christie, who was from Goa, used to work for a housing association. His mother was born in a Tamil family in Mauritius. Braverman is the niece of Mahen Kudansamy, former High Commissioner of Mauritius in London.
Opposition to the deal with India
Suella Braverman had recently said that she has many apprehensions about the trade deal with India. If they believe that after this deal, immigration in the UK may increase. Whereas Truss wanted a trade agreement to be signed with India by Diwali. There is a constant demand from the Government of India to increase the number of work and study visas for Indian citizens. Braverman, himself an immigrant, was heavily criticized when he gave this interview.
Why is Suella upset?
In the interview, Braverman has said that the number of Indian refugees may increase due to the large number of long-stay visas in the UK. He has strongly opposed this agreement with India. He said that Priti Patel, who was the Home Minister of the country before her, wanted to increase the number of illegal immigrants. According to them, this agreement is not necessary and it will work properly, it is not necessary either.
