Lawyer Pratap Baburao Pandit has filed an application in the Supreme Court
He belongs to the Mahar caste and is a Scheduled Caste Christian, the petition filed by lawyer Pratap Baburao Pandit said. The appellant argued that the Central Government has constituted several committees over the years. Now the formation of a new committee will further delay the hearing of this matter in the Supreme Court. There are already several petitions in the Supreme Court, which were filed in 2004.
Related applications are pending for 18 years
The petition states, ‘The appellant is aggrieved, as the main Writ Petition (Civil) No. 180/2004 and related applications are pending for 18 years. The appellant fears that if the present committee is allowed, the hearing of the main petition may be delayed, thereby causing incomplete damage to Christians of Scheduled Caste origin, who have been deprived of Scheduled Caste privileges for the last 72 years.’ The plea filed by lawyer Franklin Caesar Thomas said that it is also affecting the fundamental rights of the affected community, and speedy justice is imperative under Article 21.
