Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has chaired a pre-budget meeting with Finance Ministers of all States and Union Territories to seek their inputs and suggestions for the upcoming budget of 2023-24.
The meeting took place in the national capital today.
Besides Nirmala Sitharaman and State/Union Territories (UTs) Finance Ministers, Union Ministers of State (MoS) for Finance Pankaj Chowdhary and Bhagwat Karad, Secretaries of various wings of the Union Ministry of Finance, and Chief Economic Advisor Ananth Nageswaran, among others attended the meeting.
Further details about the meeting are not yet in the public domain.
Nirmala Sitharaman has so far chaired several pre-budget consultations with groups of experts and industry leaders, including experts from the agriculture and food processing industry.
The first meeting took place on Monday.
The formal exercise of preparing the annual budget for the next financial year 2023-24 began on 10 October.
The budget for 2023-24 is likely to be presented on February 1.
Notably, this will be the last full budget of the current government before the Lok Sabha elections to be held in April-May of 2024.
