Review
In 2018, Luv Ranjan’s romantic comedy ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’ was a hit. The film featured Sonu, Titoo and his sweetie. Even today, people find it difficult to remember the name of this film. The director has stepped up the name game with ‘Tu Juthi Mein Makkar’. Most of the film leaves the audience confused whether to call Ranbir’s character Rohan, Mickey or Jeetendra. Later it becomes clear that it has many names. Same goes for Shraddha Kapoor. She is also Nisha and also Tinni. He has a best friend and her name is Kinney (Monica Chaudhary). Anubhav Singh Bassi has played the role of Ranbir Kapoor’s best friend in the film. Apart from being a best friend, he is also Ranbir’s business partner. Both boys run the family business and are also relationship gurus, running a breakup service. He says, this is his side business. They run a package of whatever help is needed to complete the relationship. However, luck reverses and this very trait of Mickey comes back to bite him.
how is the movie
There has not been a film in the last few years where the first half and the second half are completely different. Before the interval, the film looks like the Corsican chapter of Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Tamasha’. While after the interval, the film looks like a cocktail of Sooraj Barjatya and Karan Johar, which Luv Ranjan has put in Priyadarshan’s estimation. The first part of the film has a beautiful beach, heroine in bikini, hero in swimwear and danceable songs. Seeing all this cools the eyes but seems aimless. The characters in the film don’t know what they want. As viewers we try to see and understand what is shown and not explained.
Karthik Aryan’s powerful cameo
Karthik Aryan has a great cameo in the film. This works like a booster for the film’s story as the film picks up pace in the second half and becomes a family entertainer. As in Luv Ranjan’s previous films, there is no enemy among the women here. Dimple Kapadia plays Mickey’s progressive mom. Hasleen Kaur plays the role of his sister. He is miserly, needy and a lover of gossip. Luv Ranjan’s films have always shown the boys’ point of view. This time the focus is on new age dating and the menace of modern love.
A refreshing film
‘Do you want to love or time pass?’, Mickey asks Tinnie such a direct question so as not to waste time. Both fall in love with each other soon. Both are talkative and talk about everything except the necessary and important things. More talking and less listening. There is no boy-girl fight between the two here. The point is that they don’t talk about important things. Can Mickey and Tinny make necessary and difficult decisions for each other? Watching the film, the audience also feels that everything will be fine. However, this is a refreshing film.
How is the acting?
Ranbir has stood out when he has played the role of a broken man on screen. His silence speaks volumes. However, here he has entered a new genre. A genre where Karthik Aryan has mastered. Great romance, talkativeness and one monologue after another. Ranbir has probably spoken the most dialogues in this film. He looks good with Shraddha but the chemistry between the two needed to be worked on. Shraddha is looking enthusiastic in the film. Dimple Kapadia and Hasleen Kaur also swim separately. Boney Kapoor has nothing special to do. Given the length of the film, the characters in the film could have been given a bit more depth.
Why watch?
‘Tu Juthi Mein Makkar’ has comedy, romance and the heart is in its place. If you want to watch something new and interesting during the festival, you can watch this movie.
