Selfie Movie Review : Akshay Kumar’s last year release Bachchan Pandey, Samrat Prithviraj, Rakshabandhan, Kathaputli and Ram Setu did not do well in cinemas as well as on OTT. Two of those films were remakes of Bachchan Pandey and Kathaputli South. However, Akshay is constantly doing remake films. Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi’s film ‘Selfie’ is also a remake of the 2019 Malayalam film ‘Driving Licence’. Thus in Bollywood these days there is more emphasis on the culture of remake films of South cinema. Last week saw the release of Karthik Aaryan’s ‘Shahzada’, the Hindi remake of Telugu star Allu Arjun’s superhit film ‘Ala Baikunthapuramlo’.

The story of ‘Selfie’
RTO Inspector Omprakash Aggarwal (Emraan Hashmi) is a fan of film superstar Vijay Kumar (Akshay Kumar). Vijay Kumar came to Bhopal, where Om Prakash lives, in connection with the shooting of one of his films. Vijay Kumar has to submit a copy of his driving license for permission to shoot the film, but at the last moment he learns that his license has been lost. Being a fan of Vijay, Omprakash helps in making the license soon. Vijay, who reaches the RTO office to get the license, gets angry seeing the media and insults Omprakash in front of his son.
A twist in the story
The twist in the story comes when Omprakash, Vijay’s biggest fan, now becomes his biggest enemy. Meanwhile, some goons pelt stones at Om Prakash’s house, so he thinks that Vijay has done it all. Then it is clarified that if Vijay wants a driving license he will have to come to the RTO and take all the tests like a normal person. You have to go to the theater to know how the battle between the superstar and his fan takes shape.

Review of ‘Selfie’
After watching this film, you will be reminded of Shahrukh Khan’s 2016 film ‘Fan’. It also showed that Shahrukh’s biggest fan has become an enemy. In this film, Shah Rukh played a double role of himself and a fan. However, this film is different in that regard. The first half of the film is interesting and gives hope of a spicy film. But in the second half the story of the film becomes loose. The climax of ‘Selfie’ is weak. However, director Raj Mehta has tried to add all the spices in the film from comedy to action but failed to make a good film due to poor script.
Akshay Kumar’s acting in the role of a superstar is okay. While Emraan Hashmi looks good in some scenes. Nusrat Bharucha and Diana Penty have nothing special to do in this film. The songs of the film are also not entertaining. Two item numbers at the beginning and end of the film are driving fans crazy.
Why watch?
If you haven’t seen the Malayalam movie ‘Driving License’ and you are a die-hard Akshay Kumar fan, then you can go and watch this movie in theaters. Otherwise it will be better to wait till it comes on OTT.
