On Saturday, Kashmiri Pandit Puran Krishna Bhatt was attacked by terrorists near his residence in Chaudhary Gund area of South Kashmir district. In this he died. Deputy Inspector General of Police Sujit Kumar said on the target killing that the Kashmir Freedom Fighter (KFF) group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Kashmiri Pandit Pooran Krishna Bhatt was attacked near his residence in Chaudhary Gund area of South Kashmir district. Police said he was taken to Shopian Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
In protest against this incident, hundreds of displaced Kashmiri Pandit employees protested against the targeted killing of their community members and blocked the Jammu Akhnoor road. After this incident, the Jammu and Kashmir Police cordoned off the area and started raids to arrest the attackers.
The DIG said that in the initial investigation it has been found that a terrorist had opened fire on Puran Krishna Bhatt. He said that there is a security arrangement for this cluster. There is a deployment of guards, but how this mistake happened is also being investigated. Action will be taken for negligence. Shopian Deputy Commissioner Sachin Kumar Vaish said that Bhat’s body would be taken to Jammu where the last rites would be performed.
Relatives of Pooran Krishna Bhatt say that Bhatt’s family had started in the 90s when Kashmiri Pandits were forced to leave the Valley. Even then he had not fled.
