America’s Vice President Kamala Harris hosted a Diwali party at her residence and celebrated the festival with great enthusiasm with the Indians living in America. A video of him burning sparklers has also surfaced.
Special arrangement of Indian food for the guests
Celebrating Diwali on Friday, he said, “Diwali is a festival that presents reconciliation between cultures.” The official residence of the Vice President – was decorated with colorful lights and diyas (earthen lamps), while the guests were served Indian dishes ranging from ‘pani puri’ to traditional sweets. Interestingly, Kamala Harris invited around 900 people to her Diwali party.

The Vice President said, “It is about being inspired by the relevance of light over darkness and shedding light in the darkest of times. As Vice President, I think about it a lot because we cannot shy away from the big challenges in our country and the world. These are the moments when a festival like Diwali reminds us of the importance of our power to bring light in the darkest of times.
Kamala Harris recalls her childhood days
Recalling his childhood days of celebrating with his grandparents in Chennai, Harris said Diwali is about tradition. It is a culture. It is an age-old concept, which presents the reconciliation of cultures and communities.
Significantly, several Indian-American members of the Biden-Harris administration, including Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy, Special Adviser to the President Neera Tandon and Joe Biden’s speechwriter Vinay Reddy, attended Kamala Harris’ Diwali party. Rich Verma, who was the US Ambassador to India, also attended the ceremony.
