A win in Jalandhar would give the ruling party in Punjab and Delhi its only member in the Lok Sabha.
New Delhi:
With the AAP candidate leading by a huge margin in the Jalandhar Lok Sabha bypoll, the party’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal today said it was an “unprecedented victory” because of the good work done by the Bhagwant Mann government in Punjab.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Sushil Rinku is leading over his nearest rival and Congress candidate Karamjit Kaur Choudhary by over 48,000 votes, according to the latest trends on the Election Commission’s website.
A win in Jalandhar would give the ruling party in Punjab and Delhi its only member in the Lok Sabha. AAP does not have any member in the lower house of parliament after its defeat in the Sangrur bypoll last year.
The Sangrur parliamentary seat fell vacant after Mann resigned as MP after being elected to the Punjab Legislative Assembly. AAP currently has 10 members in the Rajya Sabha.
Talking to reporters at the AAP headquarters here regarding the Jalandhar bypoll, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, “This is an unprecedented victory because of the good work of the Hon’ble government.” ,
The Jalandhar seat fell vacant after the death of Karamjit Kaur’s husband and Congress MP Santokh Singh Choudhary in January.
“We do politics of work and seek votes from people for our work, and people have stamped the work of Bhagwant Mann government by saying ‘Hum aapke saath hain’… This is a big message,” Mr. Mann Kejriwal, who was accompanying Mr Kejriwal, said the trends in the bypolls were a “positive seal” of the people in Punjab on the work done by his government so far.
“The election result has increased our responsibility and my confidence. We will work harder for the development of Punjab,” he said.
