The US military said al-Qureshi was killed in October. He told that the operation was carried out by Syrian rebels in the southern province of Daraa. It is not yet clear why on Wednesday IS has confirmed the death of al-Qureshi almost a month later. US Central Command said, ‘ISIS remains a threat to the region.’ The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also confirmed al-Qureshi’s death in October.
IS is defeated
“The commander was an Iraqi national and was accompanied by Lebanese fighters,” the Observatory said. One of these fighters was wearing a belt tied to a bomb and blew himself up. Very little is known about Al Quraysh. He took over the leadership of IS after the death of Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi. However, they are not related to each other. IS was defeated in Iraq in 2017 and in Syria two years later. Now the gangster’s death has given him another blow.
IS made new leader
IS spokesman Abu Umar al-Muhajer made this announcement at a time when IS is trying to attack in parts of Syria and Iraq. Al-Muhajer said, ‘He died fighting the enemies of Allah.’ Al Muhajir said, ‘The new leader of the group is now Abu al-Hussein al-Husseini al-Qureshi, who is among the loyal sons of the Islamic State.’ In October 2019, the US killed IS founder Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Al Qureshi is the third leader killed after Baghdadi’s death.
