IND vs NZ: The Indian team has been fined 60 percent of the match fee for slow over-rate against New Zealand in the first ODI in Hyderabad. Javagal Srinath of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the penalty after India were found three overs short of the stipulated overs in the opening ODI of the series on Wednesday. India won the first match by 12 runs.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a statement that in accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Support Staff relating to violations related to minimum over rate, players will be fined for each over the team fails to complete the match fee. 20 percent (60 percent in three overs) was fined. The first match played between India and New Zealand was very exciting. India scored 349 runs while batting first. But New Zealand fell behind by 12 runs.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma has accepted the fine for the infringement so there was no need for an official hearing. On-field umpires Anil Choudhary and Nitin Menon, third umpire KN Ananthapadmanabhan and fourth umpire Jayaraman Madangopal laid the charges. India took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series with a 12-run win thanks to Shubman Gill’s brilliant double century.
Young batsman Shubman Gill played a brilliant inning of 208 runs off 149 balls and made many records in his name. Shubman Gill now holds the record for playing the biggest innings against New Zealand, while he has also become the youngest batsman to score a double century.
