‘I’m single, can I find a husband’, Twitter highlights amid Covid protests in China

China Covid Protest: There is an outcry in China over the ‘Zero Covid Policy’. People have now taken to the streets regarding the strict rules made against Corona. Force is also being used to suppress the voice of the protesters. Even after this, the government is not able to control the protest.

According to media reports, there is a ban on broadcasting videos and photos related to the protests. Accounts that went viral with content related to the protests have also been put on a tightly censored cyberspace. The game of cat and mouse continues between the police and the protesters. Dating apps and social media are being used by the protesters to dodge the police.

#hangzhou flood on twitter

To dodge the police, activists are now saving videos or photos related to the protest on foreign social media platforms. Meanwhile, there has been a flood of #hangzhou on Twitter. #hangzhou trended a lot between 9:39 pm on Monday night and 1:19 am on Tuesday. When India Today analyzed a sample of 10,000 posts (including retweets) with #hangzhou, a very strange case came to the fore.

Protesters sending messages in code?

In its research, India Today found that most of the accounts with this hashtag had pictures of girls. 454 posts included the message “I’m single, can I find a husband on Twitter” along with pictures of beautiful women. Similarly, another caption “love never dies” was written with the pictures 908 times. Looking at this tweet and retweet, it seems that such messages with this hashtag are being used as a special code.
