Crimea Bridge Explosion: A fire broke out on a bridge connecting Russia with the Crimean peninsula on Saturday, killing three people and partially causing the bridge to collapse. Russian officials gave this information. Just a day before this i.e. on Friday, 7 October was the birthday of Russian President Vladimir Putin. It is being said that the bridge has been blown up in this way to hurt Putin. It is through Crimea that Russia sends war equipment to the southern part of Ukraine. The president of the Russian-backed regional parliament of the Crimean peninsula has blamed Ukraine for this, although Russia has not blamed anyone for it.

Ukrainian officials have from time to time threatened to attack the bridge and some have praised the attack, but Ukraine has not claimed responsibility. Russia’s National Counter-Terrorism Committee said seven bogies of a fuel-carrying train caught fire after a truck bomb exploded, resulting in “partial collapse of two sections of the bridge”. This 19-kilometre (12 mi) bridge was opened in the year 2018 across the Kerch Strait connecting the Black Sea and the Azov Sea. It is the longest bridge in Europe. It cost $3.6 billion to build. Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014 in violation of international law and then built this bridge.

Putin breaks silence

Vladimir Putin has called the attack on the Kerch Bridge connecting Russia with Crimea a “terrorist act” by Ukrainian Special Services. The Russian news agency gave this information. “There is no doubt that this is a terrorist act aimed at the destruction of vital civil infrastructure,” Putin told Alexander Bastrykin, the chairman of the Russian investigative committee, via video conference on Sunday. Bastrykin said the option was open to him to try the incident as a terrorist act.

The Crimean peninsula holds symbolic significance for Russia and is important for its military operations in the south. If the bridge is closed, it will make it more difficult to transport goods to Crimea. Russia’s energy ministry said Crimea has enough fuel for 15 days. He said the ministry is working on ways to replenish the stock. The movement of passenger trains on the bridge has been suspended till further notice by the authorities. President Vladimir Putin was informed of the explosion and ordered the creation of a government committee to deal with the emergency.

What did the Crimean parliament say?

The president of Crimea’s Russian-backed regional parliament has blamed Ukraine for the blast. However, he added that the bridge has suffered minor damage and will be repaired immediately. Vladimir Konstantinov, president of Crimea’s parliament ‘State Council of the Republic’, said on the Telegram app about Ukraine, “During their 23-year rule, they haven’t built anything that can be noticed, but they want to damage the Russian bridge.” I have been successful.’ An MP from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s party on Saturday dismissed claims that Ukraine was behind the incident. He called it the result of Russia’s efforts to control Crimea and annex it to the Russian mainland.

David Arakhamia, leader of the Servant of the People’s Party, wrote on Telegram, ‘Russia’s illegal construction is starting to collapse and is on fire. The reason is simple: if you make an explosive, sooner or later it will explode on you too. And this is just the beginning.’ Other Ukrainian officials expressed happiness over the incident. The secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, Oleksiy Danilov, posted a video on Twitter showing pictures of a fire on the bridge on the left and Marilyn Monroe’s famous song “Happy Birthday Mr President” playing on the other. . It is noteworthy that Friday, October 7 was the birthday of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

While one of Zelensky’s advisors, Mikhailo Podolik, tweeted: ‘Crimea, bridge, beginning. Everything illegally made will be destroyed, everything stolen will have to be returned to Ukraine, everything Russian has to get rid of.’ In Moscow, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the Ukrainian government’s response to the civil infrastructure collapse reflects its terroristic nature.
