Arrests In Crimea Bridge Blast: Eight suspects have been arrested in connection with the explosion of a vehicle parked on a bridge in Russian-occupied Crimea. Those arrested include five Russians. In addition, three citizens of Ukraine and Armenia have been arrested.
Moscow on Saturday (October 8) called the blast on the Kerch Strait Bridge a terrorist attack by the Ukrainian Secret Service. According to Interfax, Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) said on Wednesday (October 12) that it had arrested five Russians, three citizens of Ukraine and Armenia.
FSB gave this information regarding explosives
According to Aljazeera, the FSB said the explosives were kept in plastic film rolls, which were removed from the Ukrainian port of Odessa in August and passed through Bulgaria, Georgia and Armenia before being brought to Russia.
The FSB accused Ukraine’s military intelligence service and its director Kirillo Budanov of orchestrating the attack. According to Tass news, 12 people have also been identified as associates. According to the Russian news agency, at least four people were killed in the blast. Ukraine has not officially claimed responsibility for the blast, but some Ukrainian officials celebrated the attack.
Ukrainian official called Russian investigation rubbish
A senior Ukrainian official has dismissed the Russian investigation. “The whole activity of the FSB and the investigative committee is rubbish,” Ukrainian public broadcaster Saspilne quoted Andrey Yusov, the spokesman for the interior minister, as saying the FSB and the investigative committee were fake structures serving the Putin regime. Therefore, there will be no comment on his next statement, he said.
In addition to several fuel tankers on a train bound for the occupied peninsula from southern Russia, a section of a 19-km-long bridge was destroyed in the attack, temporarily halting road traffic. The bridge was opened by Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2018 as part of his iconic project. It became vital to the Russian military campaign, as it was being supplied to Russian troops fighting in southern Ukraine.
Crimean man turns truck owner
Al Jazeera quoted a local media as saying that the owner of the truck in which the blast took place is a 25-year-old Crimean man. The owner of the truck has said that he is innocent as the truck was being driven by his uncle. The truck driver is also among those killed.
Russia fired several missiles on Ukraine on Monday (October 10) and disrupted power supplies, stunned by the Crimean bridge blast. According to the report, at least 19 people were killed and dozens were injured in Russian attacks in Ukraine in one day. In a televised meeting of Russia’s Security Council, Putin said the attacks were in retaliation for the Crimean bridge blast. The Russian president said that Moscow would give a serious response to any further attacks by Ukraine.
