British Sikh MP of Indian origin, Preet Kaur Gill, in a letter to Home Minister Suella Braverman, has called for protection and immediate action on the increasing crimes against the community in Britain. Gill, MP from Birmingham, citing hate crime figures in 2021-22, said it had increased by 169 per cent, while overall religious hate crime increased by 38 per cent.

Gill said in the letter, which he released on Twitter on Monday, that I am deeply concerned by these new figures. 301 hate crimes were registered against Sikhs in 2021-22, up from 112 in 2020-21. Overall, there has been a 38 percent increase in religious hate crimes compared to an increase of 169 percent. There were 336,000 Sikhs living in Britain in the 2001 census.

Gill said that 301 hate crimes were registered against Sikhs in 2021-22, up from 112 in 2020-2021. In the letter, which was also addressed to Simon Clarke, Secretary of the Department for Leveling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC), Claudio Capos, 28, of Manchester, was sentenced to three years in prison for assaulting 62-year-old Avtar Singh in June Was. Gill in his letter urged the implementation of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) report on British Sikhs, which was published in 2020.

Gill said, the report was shared with both the Home Minister and the Communities Secretary at that time and was an attempt to consult the government on the definition of anti-Sikh hatred. He said, the Home Office and the DLUHC, among them, have failed to respond, despite several promises of resolutions for the meeting.

A Sikh family was abducted at gunpoint and four members of the same family were killed in Merced, San Francisco in the US.
