Jaipur:
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Sunday defended benefits reserved for families of martyrs under a state scheme, saying BJP leaders were misleading people and tarnishing Rajasthan’s image.
“The kind of package that the Rajasthan government gave to war widows, be it Pulwama, Balakot or Kargil, does not exist anywhere in the country. I had brought the package about 25 years ago when I was the chief minister.” Mr Gehlot told reporters after attending an event.
He said that under the package, land and houses are allotted to the families of martyrs, schools are built in the name of martyrs and jobs are reserved for their children.
The chief minister’s remarks came in the wake of a protest by three war widows, who are demanding a change in rules so that their relatives and not just children, can get government jobs on compassionate ground.
“Why are they asking for jobs after four years? The incident happened in 2019 but then there was no demand and now suddenly after four years the issue has been raised. They (BJP leaders) are misleading people and tarnishing the image of Rajasthan. Have been.” Mr Gehlot said on Sunday.
He said, “If they (BJP leaders) continue to work like this, the public will give them a befitting reply.” We are giving a good package to the families of the martyrs. How can they ask for jobs other than children. They said.
