Less than a year after his hit television show Molki, Amar Upadhyay is back on TV with yet another love story. He will again be playing the role of an older man in love with a younger woman in Shemaroo’s new TV show Kyunki Tum Hi Ho. The actor, who also had a pivotal role in this year’s blockbuster Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, currently has a lot of work lined up including work related to his new production house. Amar is also producing his new show and he spoke to Hindustan Times about how TV seems to have struck a chord for him. read this also: Adnan Khan returns with Katha Anki, reveals giving more than 4-5 auditions every day
Amar says Kyunki Tum Hi Ho, which is also produced by him, is very different from his hit TV show titled Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Talking about the new show, he said, “I have done a love story of same age and I have also done a love story of older man and younger girl twice. Kyunki Tum Hi Ho is a love triangle between a middle-aged man and a boy and girl of around 22-23 years of age. It is the journey of a girl named Kavya who has many big dreams. Her dreams do come true but they also bring a bag full of negativity in her life which she cannot deal with. This turns her life upside down and she tells God that he may not have made her dream come true as it turned into a nightmare.
Amar says that the script will be relatable to all as it caters to all age groups. While he refuses to call his character negative, he insists it is a ‘situational’ antagonist who looks negative but is not an outright villain.
The actor admitted that playing an older man opposite a younger character worked out for him by chance. “I played an uneducated guy in love with a little girl in Saath Nibhana Saathiya. It was a strange pairing and then, I played a grown man in love with a little girl in Molki. I hope it proves third time lucky,” he says.
But he makes it clear that the stories of all these shows are quite different from each other. On being able to have a successful second innings after the success of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Amar says, “I am just working, choosing my scripts wisely and doing what I want. . I try to avoid repetition. On the success of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 in which he played a man opposite Tabu’s twin characters, he says, “Thankfully it became a big hit, it was fantastic.”
Amar is also working on his Gujarati web series Satya, which is slated to release next year. It is a murder mystery with a “very beautiful and gripping script”. He is also working on his next film and the second one is being made under his own production house.
